Assistant Chief of Staff, G-2 (Intelligence)

The Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence (DCSINT), G2, as the Senior Army Intelligence Officer in Japan, serves as the principal advisor to the Commanding General on all intelligence, counterintelligence, and security matters. The G2 directs intelligence collection, analysis, production and dissemination in support of OPLANS and contingency operations. The G2 coordinates command support for Army intelligence activities in Japan, including bilateral intelligence planning, intelligence exchange and exercise support and develops and maintains liaison between the United States and allied intelligence agencies and organizations. The G2 functions as the Department of the Army Senior Official of the Intelligence Community (SOIC) in Japan, representing all supported commands and activities concerning Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).

Our Mission

Provide timely, accurate and relevant intelligence and security support to United States Army Japan assigned and attached units; plan, develop and execute the intelligence portion of the US/Japan bilateral exchange program; be prepared to execute a functioning Army Service Component DCSINT staff in support of USPACOM regional contingencies.


The Operations Division provides intelligence support to the Command, conducts unilateral and bilateral intelligence planning to support OPLANS and directed missions and contingency operations. The Operations Division conducts exercise scenario development and coordinates and implements at joint, bilateral, and unilateral levels. The Operations Division coordinates with other US Army units, United States Forces, Japan (USFJ), 5th Air Force, and Commander, Naval Forces Japan (COMNAVFORJ), as well as with the Japan Ground Self-Defense Forces (JGSDF) Regional Armies and Ground Staff Office (GSO) Director of Intelligence.

The Intelligence Division conducts intelligence analysis, production and dissemination. The Intelligence Division provides current intelligence, intelligence estimates, threat estimates, and intelligence support to Force Protection in support of Command requirements, contingency operations, and potential and actual threats to USARJ personnel and facilities. The Intelligence Division also manages the Command's Priority Intelligence Requirements (PIR) and Requests for Information (RFI). The Intelligence Division serves as the primary liaison between the Japan Ground Staff Office (GSO) Intelligence Department and ODCSINT, and manages the Bilateral Intelligence Exchange Program.

The Security Section directs and conducts the Personnel Security Program and administers the Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) program for USARJ.
