History

The 623rd Movement Control Team (MCT) lineage begins at Fort Eustis, Virginia. After the unit was activated October 31, 1967, and designated as 623rd Transportation Detachment, 39th Transportation Battalion, the unit deployed to the Republic of Vietnam where it earned the Meritorious Unit Commendation. The unit participated in several campaigns to include: Counter Offensive IV-VII, Tet 1969/Counter Offensive, Consolidation I, Consolidation II, and Cease-Fire. Following its outstanding service the unit was inactivated April 30, 1972, while in Vietnam. The 623rd Transportation Detachment reactivated as 623rd Movement Control Team (MCT), 39th Transportation Battalion, on September 17, 2002, in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. On July 16, 2007, the unit moved and made its home at Sagami General Depot, Japan. The unit supports bilateral operations throughout the U.S. Army Pacific area of operations under 35th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion (CSSB). On September 1, 2008, the MCT deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and operated at Khabari Alawazem Crossing, located on the Kuwait/Iraq border. There its members provided in-transit visibility of all sustainment and coalition convoys entering and exiting Iraq. On February 27, 2011, the unit deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and operated out of Mazar-E-Sharif, Afghanistan, providing in-transit visibility for all sustainment and coalition trucks in the Balkh Province. They deployed again to Afghanistan on September 9, 2013.
