History
The Military Police Battalion Japan was activated as a Provisional unit on November
1st, 2002 at Camp Zama, Japan.
The new battalion was established to provide command and control of all the military
police units assigned to U.S. Army Japan, and includes the 247th Military Police
Detachment in Okinawa and the 88th Military Police Detachment on Honshu.
The battalion provides and plans for the execution of installation security and
force protection responsibilities within its area of responsibility and, on order,
deploy MP modules in support of U.S. Army Pacific-directed deployments. It also
provides technical and tactical oversight of MP operations.
The first commander of the battalion is LTC Daniel Hulsebosch, and the SGM is MSG
Alfred Simmons.
