INCOMING COMMANDER
Lieutenant Colonel James P. Hooper, a distinguished graduate of the Army ROTC program at Lafayette College, was commissioned as an Ordnance Officer in 1992.
From 1992 to 1997, LTC Hooper was assigned to the 45th Corps Support Group at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, where he served as a Maintenance Platoon Leader, Shop Officer, Support Operations Maintenance Officer, and Group Support Operations Maintenance Branch Chief. After attending the Officer Advanced Course, LTC Hooper was assigned to the 593rd Corps Support Group at Fort Lewis, Washington from 1998 to 2001 where he served as Battalion S-1 and S-4 for the 44th Corps Support Battalion and Company Commander, 542nd Maintenance Company. In 2001, he was assigned to the U.S. Army's New England Recruiting Battalion as the Battalion Operations and Marketing Officer. After one year, he was reassigned as Aide-de-Camp for the Commanding General of the Army's Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) in Warren, Michigan. This assignment was followed by attendance at the Air Command and Staff College (ACSC) at Maxwell Air Force Base (AFB), Alabama.
Following graduation from ACSC, LTC Hooper was assigned to Fort Bragg, North Carolina and deployed for 12 months, in 2004-05, to Balad, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as Chief, Equipment Readiness Division, 1st Corps Support Command (Airborne). Upon redeployment from Iraq, he was reassigned to the 82nd Airborne Division Support Command (DISCOM), which later transformed to the 82nd Sustainment Brigade, where he served as the Brigade Deputy Support Operations Officer. In June 2006, LTC Hooper was assigned to the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR)/4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division where he served as the Executive Officer for the 782nd Brigade Support Battalion as the unit deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Midway through this 15 month deployment, he was reassigned as the Brigade Support Operations Officer for the 508th PIR, also known as Task Force Fury. After redeploying to Fort Bragg in 2008, LTC Hooper was reassigned to the Joint Staff Logistics Directorate (J4) in the Pentagon as the Deputy Maintenance Division Chief.
LTC Hooper earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Civil Engineering from Lafayette College in Easton, PA and a Master's Degree in Military Operational Arts and Sciences from Air University at Maxwell AFB, AL. His military education includes the Ordnance Officer Basic Course, the Combined Logistics Officer Advanced Course, and the Air Command and Staff College.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster (OLC) indicating a second award; the Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC); Army Commendation Medal (1 OLC); Army Achievement Medal (3 OLC); National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award); the Afghan Campaign Medal; the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals; the Overseas Service Ribbon (3); and the NATO Medal. He has also earned the Parachutist Badge, the Air Assault Badge, and the Combat Action Badge.
