Incoming Soldiers & Sponsorship

September 6, 2011

As the Battalion Commander and Battalion Command Sergeant Major we would like to congratulate you on your assignment to the 35th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion “Samurai”, (CSSB). Our battalion is capable of deploying to an area of operation anywhere in the world; providing command and control of assigned and attached units in order to execute proactive combat sustainment support operations. In order to accomplish our missions the battalion is focused on building the team through tough realistic training, while developing strong family bonds through effective Family Readiness Groups.

Camp Zama is located about 25 miles southwest of central Tokyo in the cities of Zama and Sagamihara in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. And although Japan is slightly smaller than California, it offers numerous cultural and historical locations to explore. The climate of Japan is roughly comparable to that of the east coast of the United States, similar to North Carolina. There are many on-post and off-duty activities to do while in Japan.

Camp Zama has many MWR programs for you and your Family to take advantage of. We would encourage you to visit the United States Army Japan (USARJ) and Samurai Battalion website: http://www.usarj.army.mil/organization/35th/. There you will find essential information you might need to make you transition to Japan as smooth as possible. If you need any assistance in your move to the 35th CSSB you can always contact the Family Readiness Group coordinator, Mrs. Kelly Iglesias, at 011-81-42-869-4679. You can also reach the SDNCO 24 hours a day/seven days a week from CONUS at DNS 315-268-4236 and commercial at 011-81-42-869-4311.

In closing, we're looking forward to your arrival, meeting you, and having you as a member of the "Samurai" Team. You should be receiving a response in the near future from your company sponsor. Again, we want to congratulate you on your assignment to the 35th CSSB, we look forward to your arrival. "Samurai!"

Sincerely,
