The 35 Combat Sustainment Support Battalion (CSSB) lineage begins at Ft Devens, Massachusetts.
Following its 15 March 1944 activation as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 216th Quartermaster Battalion, the unit deployed to Okinawa, Japan where it received World War II Campaign Participation Credit for its participation in the Ryukus Archipelago Campaign.
Following its outstanding service in Japan, the unit deployed to Korea in support of rebuilding of Korean infrastructure. The unit was inactivated 25 January 1949 in Korea. Two years later it was reactivated as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 35th Quartermaster Battalion and allotted to the Regular Army.
In June, 1951 the 35th deployed to Germany where it continued its tradition of providing first-class combat service support. After 20 years of distinguished service in Germany, the 35th was inactivated (21 December 1972).
The 35th Supply and Service Battalion was reactivated 15 October 1987. The 35th made its home at the Sagami Depot where it continued to conduct world class depot operations and provided combat service support throughout the US Army Japan/9th Theater Support Command Area of Operations. On 16 October 2006 the 35th Supply and Service Battalion was re-designated the 35th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion (CSSB).
In March 2011, 35th CSSB was deployed to the Northeastern part of Japan to conduct a Humanitarian Assistance/ Disaster Relief mission in support of Operation Tomodachi, which provided class I, class III, transportation, and shower support to the local populace. Additionally, 35th CSSB cleared debris from Sendai Airport, allowing it to open only 30 days after the tsunami and 12 schools and two train stations to allow the children to return to school.
In March 2012, 35 CSSB was presented with the Army Superior Unit Award (ASUA) for outstanding meritorious service in response to the Great East Japan Earthquake.
