LTC Joseph McCallion
LTC Joseph McCallion, Jr. is a native of Asbury, New Jersey. LTC McCallion graduated from Rutgers College with a degree in History. Upon completed of the Air Defense Artillery Basic Course, LTC McCallion served in various Short Range Divisional Air Defense Artillery assignments to include as an Avenger Platoon Leader in 5-5 ADA, 2d Infantry Division in the Republic of Korea, and then as an Avenger Stinger Platoon Leader and later Battery Executive Officer in 3-4 ADAR, 82d Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
After completing the Armor Officer Advanced Course, LTC McCallion served as an Assistant Battalion S3 in 1-44 ADA at Fort Hood, Texas, prior to assuming command of Charlie Battery, 1-44 ADA (Linebacker/Avenger) at Fort Carson, Colorado. LTC McCallion then served in the Pentagon as a Junior Military Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Force Management Policy) and then later as Systems Synchronization Officer for Air Defense programs in the Army G8.
After serving as the Deputy Chief of Plans in the 32d Army Air and Missile Defense Command at Fort Bliss, Texas, LTC McCallion was assigned to 3-43ADA as the Battalion Executive Officer and later as Battalion S3. During this time, LTC McCallion deployed with the Battalion when it reestablished Patriot Missile Defense operations in the USCENTCOM AOR in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. LTC McCallion then served as the Brigade S3 for the 11th “Imperial” ADA Brigade at Fort Bliss, Texas. From July 2009 until May 2011, LTC McCallion served as the Deputy Commanding Officer of the 357th Air and Missile Defense Detachment in Kaiserslautern, Germany.
LTC McCallion is a graduate of the School of Advance Military Studies (SAMS) program, Command and General Staff College, the Armor Officer Advanced Course and the Air Defense Artillery Officer Basic Course. He is also a graduate of the Airborne, Air Assault, Jumpmaster, Tank Commander, and Ranger courses.
LTC McCallion’s awards include the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Senior Parachutist Badge, Office of the Secretary of Defense Badge, the Army Staff Badge, and the British Parachutist Badge.
