CSM Norman is a native of Compton, CA. He entered the Army in 1981 and conducted Basic Training at Ft. Jackson, S.C. and Advanced Individual Training at Ft. Knox, KY.

CSM Norman has served in many stateside and overseas assignments. His assignments include Rifleman Co C (LRSD), 109th MI BN, Fort Lewis, Washington; Scout and Vehicle Crewman 3rd Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, Bad Hersfeld Germany; Team Leader and Squad Leader, 6th Battalion 31st Infantry, Fort Irwin, CA; Drill Instructor 2nd Battalion 13th Armor, Fort Knox, KY; Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Operations Sergeant, 2nd Battalion 67th Armor, Friedberg, Germany; Observer/Controller, Operations Group (Cobra TM) Fort Irwin, CA; First Sergeant and Operations Sergeant Major, 1st Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Irwin, CA; ROTC Instructor, Saint John's University, New York City; Senior NCO Trainer, Operations Group, Fort Irwin, CA; Squadron Command Sergeant Major, 4th Squadron 7th Cavalry, Camp Garry Owen, Korea; Battalion Command Sergeant Major 3rd Battalion 8th Cavalry, Fort Hood, TX; Brigade Command Sergeant Major 1st Ironhorse Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, TX.

CSM Norman has attended every level of the Non-Commissioned Officer's Education System. His military education also includes Basic and Advanced Military Mountaineering; Master Gunner Course; Master Fitness Trainer Course; Drill Sergeant School; the First Sergeants Course; the Battle Staff NCO Course and he is a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Class 52.

His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit; Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC); Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC); Army Commendation Medal (4th OLC); Army Achievement Medal (6th OLC); National Defense Service Medal (1 Bronze Star); Iraqi Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Korea Defense Service Medal; Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 5); Army Superior Unit Award (1 OLC); Combat Action Badge and the Drill Sergeant ID Badge. CSM Norman is a member of the Audy Murphy and SGT Morales Clubs. He is also a member of the Orders of St. George, St. Michael and St. Barbara.
