Command Sergeant Major Scott Beeson is from Greenfield, Indiana. He enlisted in the Army in 1988 and attended Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training as an 11B (Infantryman) at Fort Benning, Georgia. His military education includes: Warrior Leader Course, Basic Leader Course, Advanced Leader Course, First Sergeants Course, Drill Sergeant School, Master Fitness Trainer Course, Ranger School, Basic Airborne School, Air Assault School, Jumpmaster School, and United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class 62).

He also holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a focus in homeland security from the University of Maryland.

Command Sergeant Major Beeson’s military assignments include serving with 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, Republic of Korea; 4th Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Indiana National Guard; 2nd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment (Airborne), Fort Campbell, Kentucky; drill sergeant, 2nd Battalion, 54th Infantry Regiment, Fort Benning, Georgia; and 2nd Battalion, 503rd Airborne Infantry Regiment, Camp Ederle, Italy. He also served in B Company, 3rd Battalion, 34th Infantry Regiment, Fort Jackson, South Carolina; command sergeant major of 3rd Battalion (Airborne), 509th Infantry Regiment, Alaska; and command sergeant major of 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (Old Guard). His deployments include Operation Just Cause, Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom VI and VIII.

His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Purple Heart Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with Valor, Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, and Army Achievement Medal with one silver oak leaf cluster. He has earned the Italian and Thailand Parachutist badges, as well as the German Marksmanship badge (silver). He was also awarded the Order of St. Maurice (Centurion) and is a distinguished member of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard).

He also holds the Combat Infantryman’s Badge (second award), Expert Infantry Badge, Drill Sergeant Badge, Master Parachutists Badge with two bronze stars, and Air Assault Badge.
